Single-task licence

You acquire a single-task licence. The owner retains all rights. Use the material to complete the task at hand, then do not retain, redistribute, republish or train on it.

What that means

  1. Single task: the licence covers the task the material was obtained for, and ends when that task completes.
  2. Nothing transfers: the material remains the property of the node owner. You are not buying it.
  3. No retention: do not keep a copy once the task is complete.
  4. No redistribution or republication: do not pass the material on, publish it, or make it available to anyone else.
  5. No derivatives beyond the task: outputs that serve the task are fine; a new work built on the material for other purposes is not.
  6. No training: do not use the material to train, fine-tune or evaluate a model.
  7. Attribution: name the node, and the item title where there is one, in anything that uses the material.
  8. A new task needs a new licence.

Governing document

These terms are governed by the Panscia Commons Policy, which sets out the full licence, the owner's warranties, attribution, and what happens on breach. It is in preparation; this page states the operative terms until it is published here.
